Sure seems odd that LORAN is no longer with us. I have 3 tours at Shoal Cove, 2 at Malone and 1 at Grangeville between the years of 1985 and 2008.

Nice site, I enjoyed reading the guest book. While reading through the messages it became very apparent that most everyone had the same common theme, some of our best memories in our lives were while we were a "Coastie!"As for my Loran experience, which was just about 4 years, started at Lorsta Malone right out of boot camp. Since me showing up there was thought to be a mistake, it actually turned out to be the start to my career! Funny how things turn out in life...

Was stationed on French Frigate Shoals as a RM2 from 7/72 to 7/73. Interesting place to say the least. Interesting study of wildlife and the sociology of 19 guys isolated on a tiny speck of coral 500 hundred miles from civilization. Somehow, most of us came away with positive memories. The wildlife was truly amazing! Would love to see it again, but for only a much shorter visit.
