These photos are of William Gates tour of duty on East Island July - October 1945

One of his good buddies was Emmett Fitch of Malibu during his tour.
Just in case one wonder's what this is - the OUTHOUSE!
After the war, dad came home and was fortunate to go to school on the G.I. bill and attended St. Vincent’s and the University of Pennsylvania. Dad then started a job with the Civil Service Commission and when he retired he became the assistant dean of Oglethorpe University, a job he loved. Dad was truly an academic at heart.
