Station Patch c./1973
Two photos were taken from the 125 foot tall Loran "A" tower.
ET3 Don Bader and I were allowed to climb the tower while the
transmitter was shut down for maintenance sometime in 1974. I
remember that I had one heck of a sore throat and
fever...tonsillitis...but I wasn't going to pass on the chance to go
up the tower. Earlier, late 73/early 74, the 1000 foot Loran "C"
tower had been shut down for painting and a number of the guys were
allowed to climb the tower, but not I. Being the only Corpsman, the
CO wanted me on the ground in case something happened, which in my
20 year old brain I thought was pure BS, but so it goes, eh.
I always found it interesting how the main road in the area cut
right through the middle of the station.
Thanks Mac!
