Shore Component Testing was conduct by the Norfolk Test and Evaluation Detachment in conjunction with Coast Guard operator personnel at the various Lotran-B shore stations during the period July 5 throught 15 August 1960.

There were numerous attempts in 1959/60 to certify the system however the system failed to meet the criteria the U.S. Navy cancelled the project.

Pulse Repetition Rate: 20; 25 33 1/3

Peak Power: 200 Kw

Approx. ground wave range over water: 200nm

Verical Radiator Height: 272ft

Theory of Operation: Envelope and Cycle matching. Master identified by transmitting two pulses. Each pulse synchronizaed with one slave station. The two slave stations pulsed at the same basic loran rate, while the master station was pulsed at twice the same rate, with a coding delayin the timing of one master pulse with respect to the other master pulse. The standard sampling point of the ground-wave pulse at the zero cross-over point of the first dericative of the master and slave station signal envelopes.
